Noche Buena Decorations

Posadas Navidenas, Mexico’s traditional Christmas celebrations, are held from December 16th to December 24th in towns and villages across the country. The posada, or Christmas party, re-enacts the journey of Mary and Joseph as they sought shelter in Bethlehem. These gatherings often feature villancicos (Christmas carols), prayers, and the breaking of a pinata – a brightly colored papier-mache figure hung from a rope. Blindfolded participants take turns striking the pinata with a stick until it bursts, showering fruit and sweets that children eagerly rush to collect.
